Should I get travel/medical insurance?
Although the chances of having a problem are slim it is always a good idea to have cover.
Excellent medical facilities are available in Kimberley (only 30 min drive) and a first aid kit is on stand-by at the camp.

Your travel agent should book you to Johannesburg (Oliver Tambo International) from there you need to take a domestic flight to Kimberley (1 hour, 20 min). Here you will be met by a Magersfontein Safaris representative and transported to our base camp – a 30 minute drive. If preferred we can do bookings for you.

Complete the temporary firearm import permit application (SAP520) in advance and bring it with you. It is important to note that the form must be completed in black ink only and must remain unsigned until the document is finalized at the Police clearance office in front of the police official issuing the actual permit at the airport.
Of course tips are completely dependent on what you can afford and whether you are happy with the service which you received.
PH’s can be tipped directly, usually around $100/day
The rest of the Camp staff such as drivers, skinners, chef and housekeeping can receive around $200 which will be divided amongst staff by management according to their input.

A $1000 deposit will secure your dates.
How do I settle my bill at the end of the hunt?
We have a card machine which accepts Visa and Mastercard, a 3% service fee is charged on the total. Cash is also accepted.
An advance wire transfer is acceptable. Any funds in credit will be refunded.

If you do not wish to travel with your own firearms, you are most welcome to make use of one of the various rifles of the professional hunter accompanying you on your hunt. They will have a selection of the appropriate calibers available. The cost of the hire is $20/day and replacement cost of any ammunition used.

The following firearms and ammunition will not be allowed to enter South Africa:
On arrival at Oliver Tambo International Airport – Johannesburg
1. Disembark from aircraft and clear passport control – in the terminal that the flight arrives
2. Proceed to baggage claim at the respective carousel. Pick up general baggage. Your firearm/s will be delivered directly to the SAPS firearms office in the airport
For visitors with firearms arriving at Terminal 2:
– Proceed to the SAPS Firearms office. Look for the Police office signs. The location of the SAPS Firearms office in Terminal 2 is in the front of the Post Office
For visitors with firearms arriving at Terminal 1:
– Proceed to the SAPS Firearms office that is situated in Terminal 2 in front of the Post Office
4. On arrival at the SAPS Firearms office, collect your issued temporary import permit at the PHASA desk or have the necessary documentation available for inspection.
5. Your firearms and ammunition must be physically inspected to ensure that the serial numbers match those of the licenses, letter of invitation and the application forms. You will then be asked to wait while your application is processed i.e. If you are not already in possession of an issued temporary importation permit.
6. When your application has been processed and your permit has been issued, you will be required to sign for the permit. If you are connecting to other flights, please make sure you allow ample time for the process. (at least 3 hours)
